Founded in London in 1983 by British DJ and broadcaster Tony Prince together with his wife Christine, the Disco Mix Club (DMC) began as a professional service for DJs, distributing mixes, remixes, megamixes and new productions at a time when promotional material for DJs was still hard to come by.
In 1985 DMC staged the first DJ competition at London's Hippodrome, won by Roger Johnson. A year later, DJ Cheese's victory brought scratching to the centre of the contest and marked a decisive turning point: the championship gradually became a celebration of technique, creativity and turntable manipulation, growing into one of the key places where turntablism developed. Over the years the DMC has accompanied the evolution of turntablism, becoming one of the most important competitions in the history of Hip Hop DJing.
DJ Skizo is DMC’s official Branch Manager for Italy and the person responsible for developing and organising the championship nationwide.
